  Subject: Invitation for Nominations to the Roster of Biosafety Experts
  At its fourth meeting, the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP), in Decision BS-IV/4 , adopted a number of measures to further strengthen the Roster of Biosafety Experts. These included criteria and minimum requirements for experts to be nominated to the roster, updated guidelines for the roster, as well as a revised nomination form. In paragraph 3 of the above-mentioned decision, Parties and other Governments were requested to make fresh nominations in accordance with the new criteria and minimum requirements and using the revised nomination form. Also, in paragraph 4, the Executive Secretary was requested to remove all existing records in the roster within three months and refill the roster with experts who are nominated or re-nominated by Parties and Governments.

  Subject: Fifth Anniversary of the Entry into Force of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety
  As you are aware, 11 September 2008 will mark the fifth anniversary of the entry into force of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. I therefore have the honour to invite you to celebrate the anniversary, use the occasion to further promote awareness of the Protocol, and mobilise different stakeholders to support its implementation.

  Subject: Independent mid-term review of the GEF Resource Allocation Framework (RAF)
  As you may be aware, at its 32nd meeting in November 2007, the Council of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) requested the GEF Evaluation Office to undertake an independent mid-term review of the GEF Resource Allocation Framework (RAF). The findings of the Review will be presented to the GEF Council at its November 2008 meeting. I wish to invite you to actively participate in the survey and provide feedback on your experience with the RAF and your views on how it could be improved in order to enable the GEF to more effectively support the implementation of the Protocol. The deadline for completing and submitting the survey is Friday, 29 August 2008. In your response, please clearly indicate if you are a Cartagena Protocol focal point or a BCH focal point.
