A series of regional and sub-regional capacity-building workshops are being organized during 2008, in response to
decision VIII/8 (paragraph 6).
The purpose of the workshops is to strengthen national capacity for the development, implementation, review and update of national biodiversity strategies and action plans and the integration of biodiversity concerns into relevant sectors and cross-sectoral strategies, such as poverty eradication strategies. This will be accomplished through, for example, the exchange of experience in these areas and training in the use of relevant tools and mechanisms. The workshops will provide an opportunity for countries to identify ways and means of overcoming challenges in the implementation of NBSAPs. The results of the workshops will also inform the ongoing review of implementation of goals 2 and 3 of the Strategic Plan considered by the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties in May 2008.
Further information on the series of workshops is provided in the information note: "
Regional and Sub-Regional Capacity-Building Workshops on Implementing NBSAPs and Mainstreaming Biodiversity" (UNEP/CBD/WG-RI/2/INF/2).
The workshops are being organized according to the following schedule. Additional information related to each workshop will be made available via this web page as it becomes available, including links to background documents, and to presentations made at each workshop.
